South Island stores dominated Mitre 10’s annual awards held in Auckland last week with four of the five major awards heading south.
The awards dinner was the culmination of a series of events for store owners and managers, staff and Mitre 10 suppliers that attracted record numbers to seminars, a trade show and the awards dinner finale in Auckland.
“With 98 Mitre 10 Mega and Mitre 10 stores around the country, competition for these awards is pretty fierce and our South Island stores showed the way this year,” said Mitre 10 CEO John Hartmann.
“I’ve been with the company for just over a year and have just managed to complete my goal of visiting every store. What continues to impress me is the way these stores are presented and the way the staff teams within these stores are so committed to what they are doing. Our competitors really are going to have to work very hard to take on the competitive edge that commitment and service gives to our stores.”
Mr Hartmann said he was also very impressed with the displays from the suppliers at the trade show.
“More than 120 of our suppliers wanted to be part of that show and exhibit their wares to our owners, managers and staff. We had both international and national suppliers many of whom have been with Mitre 10 for many years. They form an integral part of our offering to both trade and retail customers and their loyalty and enthusiasm to be part of Mitre 10 was evident in their presence at our trade show.”
Mitre 10 General Manager Marketing Dave Elliott said the supplier and store awards were judged on criteria such as customer and supplier feedback, store presentation and look, staff performance, community relationships and financial performance.
“While these awards are for Mitre 10 store owners and our suppliers we have a significant retail footprint in New Zealand that is almost three times the size of our nearest competitor. Given that we are an entirely New Zealand owned co-operative with a group of highly driven owners and a turnover exceeding $800 million these awards carry some prestige,” said Mr Elliott.
More than 700 Mitre owners, managers, suppliers and staff attended the Auckland awards dinner.
